The Bishopsgate Institute, London
A major restoration and refurbishment of this fine Charles Harrison Townsend building, in the Arts and Crafts style. Including a new restaurant space in a former service yard.
We have been working with the Bishopsgate Institute for over 20 years and this has included carrying out a series of improvement and alteration works. Following a successful Heritage lottery fund application, this culminated in 2011 with the completion of a major project of Heritage improvements.
The whole building has been refurbished and all the original elements restored. A new entrance in Brushfield Street helps improve circulation and a new Café has been constructed on the site of an old service yard. Improvements to the facilities and building services have been effected throughout the building with new lighting and improved acoustics. A new lift provides access to the whole institute for all visitors. A thorough restoration and modernisation of the concert hall completed the work.
